something a little different...

I went to the craft 2.0 yesterday and got really inspired to draw again thanks to minu.  I used to do lots of drawings like these before I would do a painting, and I really do miss doing them.  I have never really thought they were anything special, they were just my ideas.   But now I see that that fact in itself makes them very special and important.  I have decided to do a series of these for my exhibition.  I am also thinking that this might also be a good chance to give the girls some proper arms and hands (I know I have said this, and attempted this many times before, but maybe this time it might actually work out)?   I think this is a big part that is stopping me from progressing with a children's book.  I keep thinking what kind of book has a picture of a girl standing there with extra long arms and no hands on each and every page?  Well I can't think of any story line that would fit...  So I am going to spend the next few days playing around with these little drawings, I am thinking of about 39 of them in total.

It is neat to get inspired,by visiting somewhere new and seeing something that catches your eye. This drawing is lovely, cheers Marie

A wonderful drawing! Inspiration is a powerful thing at times. Especially when we feel it and just simply go without questions. I just found your site, but I will be sure to re-visit. Best, Susie

so soft and understated, but just as evocative as your "usual" stuff :)

"Something a little different" is a wonderful thing! And you did it - you stepped up and did it! I have lots of things swirling around in my head, but finding it kind of hard to take that step for some reason. Thanks for the inspiration!

Drawing looks amazing. I'm looking forward to some arms and hands. :) You can do it Katherine! :)

Very sweet drawing. I guess you really should cherish what seperates your style from other people's style instead of worrying about it being different. After all that is where your strength lies. Maybe a way to 'avoid' the hands and feet is to draw the same girl over and over again in very different surroundings? Just a thought.

Beautiful!

I truly love your stuff.

Just a suggestion re: the kids book stuff. I think your illustrations and paintings are totally divine and I can totally see them in kids' books! I'd just say to wait until you really do find a story that pulls you, or work with a writer who is inspired by your stuff (was that a subtle enough hint??? Hehe!) to really create something amazing, rather than trying to make a story 'fit' your work.

I guess I just mean that for it to work, it's got to come from a real place, with a story that needs to be told, rather than one you can try to make work with your pictures.

Does that make sense?

Hoping that's not too pushy, I am kidding (kinda!). I just mean that if you're definitely wanting to write it yourself I completely and utterly support you to go for it - but still think you should wait until you really have a story tugging at you. Or if you're not set on the writing side, then perhaps you should think about collaborating with a writer.

Take care and hope that might help! x
